"A great experience!"

iury carlos da silva, etudiant de Brésil

Though I had very good moments at Lila, with good classes, staff very friendly, awesome teachers, I would like to point some issues:

The rooms are not lit enough. As an electrical engineer, I`m able to talk with property about this topic. All rooms have some deficiency of light to read tasks. I recommend a review of the light system that must change according to the colors of floor and walls.

During the first week, we had classes in a room without lights! The problem was solved just at the middle of the second week. I had headache almost every day. A teacher tried to move us to another room. But, even there, some lights were not working.

On the end of my period there, many friends were complaining about a specific teacher that is not native and had a very hard accent. I never had classes with him and I think this is not a rule, but travel abroad to study in a native english country and had classes with not native english teachers doesn`t make sense.

In Lila there are very good not native teachers, but would be nice a more criterious way to evaluate the new teachers.

Except by these points, everything was fine.

I must leave here my congratulations to the host family. They were amazing, very friendly! They deserve some kind of award. I felt in home for all time that I share with them.
They made the difference!

"The best introduction to the city and the culture of Liverpool."

Daniel Gil, etudiant de Venezuela

I was comfortable with the class and the teachers. Everybody was so cool with me. My host family was the best part of the experience, excellent people and excellent condition of a place to stay.

The only thing I didn't like was to wait so much time to know my host family details. It would've been better to have more time prior to my travel to make a phone call to my host family. Fortunately they were special people and I could feel like at home since the first day.

"I spent three wonderful weeks in Liverpool and going to Lila school was a right decision!"

Maria Polishchuk, etudiant de Russie

I loved everything in Lila! The school has a great location, very close to the city center and the bus stops. The lessons were exciting, I learned lots of new things. All the staff and teachers were so kind and always ready to help; and special thanks to Alex Evans, the best English teacher ever!
I really enjoyed the activities, there was a wide variety of different trips and excursions for any taste.
It was so cool to meet many people from all over the world and make lots of new friends.

"It was a very interesting experience to get to know people from all over the world."

Charline Gerwert, etudiant de Allemagne

I was in one advanced class and I really liked it. We usually were around 8 people and could discuss a lot of different topics such as the law, fashion and health. We had different teachers almost every week, so that it was very interesting to see in what way they tried to teach. Sometimes there were games, sometimes we had a discussion as a whole group or in pairs and sometimes we tried to work for ourselves so that it was a good mixture. The school has normal classrooms with whiteboards and tables so that it is no problem to learn there.

The social activities Lila offered were quite nice and it was good that there was a plan with all the activities available for each week. My housing was a bit outside the city centre, so that I had to walk 25 minutes. It was okay when it did not rain. I would have wished that more people of my accommodation would have gone to Lila, but on the other hand, I got to know nice people in the accommodation too who did not got to Lila but studied or worked in Liverpool.

All in all, it was a great experience and I was happy to go to Lila, because I think that it is one of the best and easiest way to make new friends.

Sophie Dostal, etudiant de Autriche

The teachers were very friendly and nice. I have learned a lot of new things. The lessons were fun, but we still learned new things. My classmates were very nice too. The location was quite nice and it was near to the train station, which I liked.

All in all, it was wonderful!

"I had a great time. LILA staff was really kind and tried to help wherever they could."

Barbara Zweiel

I liked classes. The teachers were great, but one thing I really missed was improving my grammar. Even in advanced class, we didn't practice much grammar. Most of the time we just did speaking which improved my English skills, but also got boring because we didn't write things down or write any essays.
I stayed at Alexander Terrace which, I think, was the worst part of my stay in Liverpool. During the last week, there was no hot water and anyway it was so dirty that it was impossible to use the kitchen there.

"The school and the people are nice but it has no sturcture and the teacher are not really organised"

Schnyder Reto

The time in LILA was nice, but i have to say that in my opinion the school should have a better structure. The teachers should be more organized.

With that I mean is that some teachers did at the same topics at the same time, and have also the same handouts for the students, which were quite boring.

Also the variety of the lessons are often the same, and if a person is not that into Art and stuff like this, it is just not interesting. Of course, Liverpool has a great history of music and art, but after one or two months I had enough. Everybody was talking about these things, even out of the school. At the advanced level, I also wish to talk about politics and business in English, but the teacher never talked about that. I couldn't figure out why, but sometimes I thought the teachers were afraid to talk about it, because they had a lot of different students with different cultural backgrounds. If a person like me is at the school for a couple months, it is a lot of repetition of the topics.

I also wished that the classes are better split, like grammar lesson, conversation, and write and reading, because if a student would like to improve their grammar skills it is almost impossible because 80% of the lessons are conversation. That is also the main reason why I can't recommend the school. Sometimes I thought some teacher were just not willing to do some grammar lessons because it is a bit a dry topic, but i mean that's a part of the language.

Another important thing is that all of the teachers should work with the schoolbook, because we have to buy the book for 25 pounds and at the end we got always handouts from some teacher from other books because they thought their own book would be better. Of course some teacher doesn't like this book, but if the teachers work with different books, the students shouldn't have to buy this books because that is quite piss-take.

I really a have to say Faith, Steven, and David did a great job it was a pleasure to have these three people as a teacher I wish more teachers would be like them.

The last negative thing the LILA wifi please remove it or change it with a wifi which works. The most of the time the wifi was so bad that I couldn't use my English dictionary. Better no wifi than a wifi like that. big minus point.

What I really liked were the Tutorials. It was really interesting to see how I improved my level from month to month. What I also liked were the trips. Hanna organized them always very well.

The student is only 15 years old and is below the minimum age of 16 required to join the course below. Can you make an exception and accept our student into the program? Can you accept students who have visas?"

Students must be 16 years old or above to study on any of our Adult Programs, any students under 16 years old can only study on our Junior Course. So unfortunately as your student is 15 he cannot study on the General English Program. Yes we can accept students who already have Visas, but we must see a copy of their Visa first to confirm they have the correct type to study with.

"I have a prospective student from Switzerland who would like to study at LILA Language School Liverpool. The student's level is "Pre-intermediate" and is below the minimum required level of "High intermediate" required to join the course below. Can you make an exception and accept our student into the program? Alternatively, do you have a placement test that we can ask the student to fill out to accurately determine the student's level?"

Dyan Test, etudiant de Etats-Unis

Our current evening course level is Upper Intermediate. Unfortunately, I will not be able to proceed with the booking as the level the student has is quite a big difference. The student will not feel comfortable in a course where the students have higher level and it would not be fair for them either. Instead of evening course, we could offer this student one to one lessons. This course is perfect for the students who want to improve their level quicker and are personalized, which means, she will complete a form to ask for all the aspects of English language she would like to practice and focus on. In addition, she will be able to request an specific timetable and we will try our best to find the perfect teacher who also suits this timetable.

"Do you have an online test so she could be assessed prior to the arrival? I am having an online conversation with her and believe that her level is higher than intermediate."

Jennifer Lueber, etudiant de Suisse

Yes, sure. We have an online grammar test that she can complete and I will be able to check with academic if she will be fine in that course having some data to show and prove them.

"I have a prospective student from Spain who would like to study at LILA Language School Liverpool. Are there any extra classes or social activities to know people and practice English outside of the group class? The student is going to stay there just one month but the second week he'll be in Ireland so he can attend classes in the first, the third and the fourth weeks. Is it possible for the student to miss the second week of class?"

We run a full social program here at LILA and the student can pick and choose the activities they want to take part in. For example we have Coffee and Conversation on a Wednesday afternoon, where they can meet with other students to practice their English over a tea or a coffee. I have attached this month’s social calendar can so you can see what kind of things are on. We also run Free English classes which are on the a Friday afternoon and Saturday morning, which the student is also welcome to attend. Yes, we can book the student in for a holiday in the second week, that is no problem.

"I have a prospective student from Austria who would like to study at LILA Language School Liverpool. Can you confirm that it is 28 lessons per week? (In the description there is written "a six hour per week course"). The student is 15 years old. The minimum age for this course is 16. Could you accept her to take part in the course?. Are there also other activities planned for the students? The mother would also like to know if they have a lot of homework to do after the lessons."

Katrin katrin, etudiant de Allemagne

Yes, we still have the General English Plus available. The General English Plus is 21 hours a week. It is the intensive course that we offer. As the student would like to come in June and she will be 16 years old from May, she will be fine to join our adult course. For the adult courses, we offer them our weekly social program, which includes activities like for example a Beatles tour, a tour of Liverpool, a tour at the Anfield stadium, or trips to other cities during the weekend. Regarding the homework, I can’t really confirm that as it depends on how hard working the group is and who the teachers are. However, we can confirm that teachers give homework to students regularly.

"Do you already have a schedule of activities you have planed in the week ? Is lunch included in the course price? As the student has to take the public transportation she would like to know if there is any reduction on the tickets for students? How can she get this reduction?"

Katrin katrin, etudiant de Allemagne

Regarding the social program, we already have some activities and weekend trips on. She will be able to check it on Lila Online, when she gets her welcome pack. I am afraid the student’s lunch it is not included on our course price. The students have 45minutes break to have lunch at our school or go somewhere to have lunch with their colleagues. Talking about the discount on the bus ticket, I know there are discounted tickets for a week (not only for students, but for everyone). I also know that if you show a student card or letter they will do a discount on her bus ticket. She can have all this information on arrival, at her first day at school. She can always ask for information at our reception if she needs further details.

"I have a prospective student from Germany who would like to study at LILA Language School Liverpool. Could you let me know the exact address of the Shared Student Accommodation and if this is what is labeled on your website as Lila Living? if you require two students to book together? Is there a 24 hours Emergency Hotline/Contact for the students at your school? Are towels and bed sheets provided in the SSA?"

As we have so many fantastic Shared Student Accommodations throughout Liverpool I cannot give you the exact addresses of them. If your student would like to book a course then our accommodation team will place them into our Shared Student Accommodation and send them the full address of where they will be staying. Unfortunately I cannot give you a price for room sharing as we only have single rooms in Shared Student Accommodation and there is an emergency hotline that students can call 24 hours a day. Fresh bedding is provided in Shared Student Accommodation but we do not however provide towels so your student would need to bring their own.

"Is there any review page for the Shared Student Accommodation. On your website the reviews (about Alexander Terrace) are a bit negative regarding the cleanness of the kitchen and I would be happy if I could assure the customer that she does not need to be worried about this."

Unfortunately we do not have a review page for our accommodation and we do not use Alexander Terrace as part of our accommodation package anymore. We do however have shared accommodation and University residence available were your student could stay.

"I have a prospective student from Kazakhstan who would like to study at LILA Language School Liverpool. Do you have any open group for completely beginners students?"

Dyan Test, etudiant de Etats-Unis

Regarding you request, I am afraid we don’t have any group opened at the moment for completely beginner students. I also checked with our academic department if there is any possibility we will open one in July, the weeks he would like to come, and they informed me that it is quite unlikely. What I would suggest is to double check in a few weeks’ time to see if we have received more enquiries and we have minimum number of students to open a beginner group. Or either check with the student if he would be interested in one to one lessons instead.

"Actually the student's level is Intermediate. The mother was total beginner and therefore the mother wrote her level instead of his. (Perhaps she didn't understand the questions.) I converse in Russian. The student had already paid before I received this email. I would think that there is probably an intermediate level course, but please let me know if there isn't. I will send the enrollment after we receive the address to where the visa support documents need to be sent."

Dyan Test, etudiant de Etats-Unis

That is completely fine. We have Intermediate groups and we will have them also during the summer. As soon as you send the enrolment form confirmed, I will proceed with the booking.
